A Rare Case of Otogenic Complications; Bezold¢¥s Abscess, Epidural Abscess, Lateral sinus Thrombosis, and Cerebellar Abscess

Abstract

|
We experienced a relatively rare case of O.M.P.C. with cholesteatoma complicated by cerebellar abscess, epidural abscess, transverse sinus thrombosis, otitic meningitis, Bezold¢¥s abscess.
A 21 year-old Korean soldier was admitted to this hospital having acute exacerbation of O.M.P.C. and a large Bezold¢¥s abscess on right side from 5 days prior to admission.
The patient had long past histosy of O. M.P.C. on right since he was 8 years old.
Hospital course of this patient was very eventful.
At first emergency radical mastoidectomy with incision and drainage of the Bezold¢¥s abscess cranio tomy for epidural abscess in right temporal region 10 days later, and finally reopening of the previously operated mastoid for drainage of a cerebellar abscess were performed one month later.
On continuous observation the patient is getting along without any noticeable sequelae.
